Mi a Dankó Pista emléknap?
A Dankó Pista Emléknap a kávéházi cigányzene ünnepe, amelyet idén első alkalommal szervezett meg a Magyar Turisztikai Ügynökség. A hagyományteremtő rendezvény célja, hogy felélessze a kávéházi és éttermi cigányzene hagyományát és felhívja a figyelmet az unikális műfaj kulturális és turisztikai jelentőségére. A világhírű prímás születésnapjához igazított emléknapon Budapest számos, turisták körében népszerű városrészének éttermei, kávézói, cukrászdái és bárjai teraszain, valamint köztereken gyönyörködhettek a vendégek és a járókelők a hagyományos cigánymuzsikában. Az ország minden szegletéből érkező, 4-6 fős, hegedűsből, brácsásból, bőgősből álló, cimbalmossal és klarinétossal is kiegészülő zenekarok a nap folyamán háromszor 45 perces időtartamban muzsikáltak, az egyes blokkok között 15 perces szüneteket tartva.
Az Emléknap egyben a Muzsikáló Magyarország 2024 program nagyszabású nyitórendezvénye is volt.
Miért éppen Dankó Pista?
Dankó Pista (1858. június 14. – 1903. március 29.), cigány származású nótaszerző, prímás, a kávéházi cigányzene ikonikus alakja. Dalai a magyar zenei örökség szerves részét képezik, emlékét szobor, rádiócsatorna, számos utca és intézménynév őrzi. Születésnapja a magyar nóta ünnepnapja.
Mi a Muzsikáló Magyarország Program?
A Muzsikáló Magyarország 2024 program több, mint 1 milliárd forint keretösszeg felhasználásával több mint 700 cigányzenész vendéglátóhelyi foglalkoztatását támogatja országszerte, négy hónapon keresztül. A program egyik kiemelt célja, hogy hozzájáruljon a hagyományos éttermi, kávéházi cigányzenei kultúra megőrzéséhez és népszerűsítéséhez, ezzel is szélesítve a hazai vendéglátóhelyek szolgáltatási palettáját, erősítve versenypiaci pozíciójukat.
Mikor lesz?
A Dankó Pista Emléknap folytatásaként a Muzsikáló Magyarország program 2024. június 17-től október 13-ig tart. Ez idő alatt hetente 4 nap, naponta 3 órán keresztül játszanak a támogatott zenekarok a program során az általuk választott hazai vendéglátó üzletekben.

Miért fontos?
A vendéglátóhelyeken hallható élő kávéházi cigányzene nem csak fontos része hazánk kulturális történelmének, zenei hagyományainak, de olyan unikális, vendégélményt növelő turisztikai eszköz is, amely magas színvonalával nagy mértékben hozzájárul Magyarország nemzetközi imázsához is. Az éttermi cigánymuzsika megőrzése, népszerűsítése igy nem csak turisztikai szempontból jelentős feladat, de egyben kulturális kötelességünk is. A műfaj elismerését jelzi, hogy a klasszikus magyar nóta, a 100 Tagú Cigányzenekar, valamint a magyar cimbalom is Hungarikum, kulturális örökségünk szerves része, ezért megőrzése, támogatása kiemelt jelentőségű.

What is Dankó Pista Memorial Day?
The Pista Dankó Memorial Day is a celebration of Gypsy music played in coffee houses, organised for the first time this year by the Hungarian Tourism Agency. The goal of this event, aimed at establishing a tradition, is to revive the tradition of Gypsy music played in coffee houses and restaurants and to draw attention to the cultural and touristic significance of this unique genre. On the Memorial Day, timed to coincide with the birthday of the world-famous lead violinist, guests and passers-by could enjoy traditional Gypsy music on the terraces of restaurants, cafés, confectioneries, and bars, as well as in public squares located in various parts of Budapest popular with tourists. Bands of 4-6 people from all over the country, comprising violinists, viola players, bass players, as well as cimbalom and clarinet players, performed music three times during the day for 45 minutes each session, with 15-minute breaks between the sessions.
The Memorial Day was also the grand opening event for the Musical Hungary 2024 Programme (Muzsikáló Magyarország).
Why is it named after Pista Dankó?
Pista Dankó (14th June 1858 – 29th March 1903) was a Gypsy composer of Hungarian nótas*, lead violinist, and an iconic figure in the world of Gypsy music played in coffee houses. His songs are integral to Hungarian musical heritage, and he is commemorated thorough statues, a radio channel, and the names of many streets and institutions. His birthday is celebrated as the holiday of Hungarian nóta.

What is the Musical Hungary Programme (Muzsikáló Magyarország)?
The Musical Hungary 2024 Programme (Muzsikáló Magyarország) supports the employment of over 700 Gypsy musicians in catering establishments across the country for four months, utilising a budget of more than 1 billion Hungarian forints. One of the main goals of the Programme is to contribute to the preservation and popularisation of the traditional culture of Gypsy music played in restaurants and coffee houses, thereby expanding the range of services offered by domestic catering establishments and strengthening their competitive market position.
When will the Programme take place?
As a continuation of the Pista Dankó Memorial Day, the Musical Hungary 2024 Programme (Muzsikáló Magyarország) will take place between 17th June and 13th October 2024. During this period, the supported bands will perform four days a week, for three hours each day, in domestic catering establishments of their choice.

Why is it important?
Live Gypsy music in catering establishments is not only an important part of Hungary’s cultural history and musical traditions but also a unique tourism asset that enhances the guest experience, and its high quality contributes significantly to Hungary’s international image. The preservation and promotion of Gypsy music in restaurants is not only a significant task from a tourism perspective but also our cultural duty. The recognition of the genre is underscored by the fact that traditional Hungarian nóta, the 100-member Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra, and the Hungarian cimbalom* have been recognised as Hungaricums, integral parts of our cultural heritage, and therefore their preservation and support is of particular importance.
